RE: James Place to permanently close to through traffic starting Feb. 1
James Place in the City of Fort Atkinson will close to through traffic starting Feb. 1 to accommodate the redevelopment of the Public Works and Parks Operations facility. The Fort Atkinson City Council approved the permanent vacation of James Place at a meeting on Oct. 3, 2023.
The Department of Public Works has placed signage on both ends of James Place indicating when the upcoming permanent closure will take place. The closure of the route will be from Janesville Avenue to Talcott Street. Hilltop Road to the south and Rockwell Avenue to the north both represent easy access to Janesville Avenue, and are a replacement for the James Place route.
“We have worked closely with the adjacent business owners to make certain they are aware of the upcoming closure and will continue to maintain the signage until Feb. 1,” said Tom Williamson, Superintendent of Public Works.
When the official closure date is reached the Department will barricade and block the area to discourage through traffic, but allow for City personnel and equipment access for daily operations.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we all get adjusted to this minor change in the flow of traffic through the area,” he said.
