RE:                   Snow Emergency to be 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday

March 9, 2023 Per ordinance, a Snow Emergency will be enacted when the City of Fort Atkinson expects to accumulate greater than two inches (2”) of snowfall within a 24-hour period. In preparation for the snow predicted for Thursday into Friday, the City of Fort Atkinson has declared a Snow Emergency to take effect Friday, March 10, 2023 at 12 a.m. until Friday, March 10, 2023 at 12 p.m. During a Snow Emergency all vehicles must be removed from public streets and alleys.

The City of Fort Atkinson Department of Public Works is monitoring a winter storm event forecast for this afternoon into tomorrow. The declaration of a Snow Emergency assists City staff in removal and cleanup of any accumulated snowfall throughout the evening Thursday, and early morning hours Friday, in anticipation of the morning commute to work and school. Snow Emergencies are used as a tool to help City staff complete snow removal operations as efficiently as possible.

The Department will maintain the main highways and secondary roadways throughout the evening hours with a combination of on-call personnel and scheduled crewmembers. The goal being reasonably clear and passable main highways and secondary roadways overnight during the heaviest snowfall. Department staff have planned for full city-wide snow management operation to begin early Friday morning continuing until all roadways have been cleared. As with any Wisconsin winter snow event, some areas around the city may continue to remain snow covered and slippery during the snowfall event.

The City of Fort Atkinson strives to ensure the safety of the community. During inclement weather, the City will provide updates via its website, social media and local media outlets.

Questions regarding this declaration can be directed to Andy Selle, Director of Public Works 920-397-9901.
