Robert Street Bridge Week #1 update
Last week was a big change for those who travel through Fort Atkinson, the traffic on Main Street was switched to four through lanes with left turn lanes. The adjustment allows more through traffic on Main Street to accommodate the Robert Street bridge closure. Removals and saw cutting was done throughout the week and utilities are being disconnected and removed from the bridge.
This week cranes and barges will be mobilized to the site and removal of the bridge deck will begin. This operation will take multiple weeks and be the primary activity in early June.
Main Street traffic will remain in its current configuration for most of the project and the Riverside Drive/Robert Street intersection will continue to be set as a three leg intersection with traffic lights.
