Tuesday at 1:23 pm, the Fort Atkinson Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 800 block of Banker Road in the City of Fort Atkinson.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a four-unit detached garage with heavy smoke coming from one of the garage stalls. The first engine crew from the Fort Atkinson Fire Department gained entry to the garage by cutting through the garage door and was able to extinguish the fire within four minutes. Inside the garage, crews discovered a burnt moped. The resident stated he returned home from an errand to find the moped burning inside the garage. A neighbor attempted to assist the resident in extinguishing the fire but was unable to do so due to the intensity of the fire and a lack of an extinguisher or hose. When they retreated from the garage, the garage door failed and shut.

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department responded with two engines, one truck, one ambulance, one squad and a chief officer.

The investigation showed that the fire was contained to the unit of origin, with some smoke damage to the neighboring stalls. The fire was deemed accidental in nature and not suspicious.

There were no injuries reported to the residents or firefighters during the incident.
