RE:                   Snow Emergency to be 12 p.m. Thursday until 12 p.m. Friday

February 15, 2023 Per ordinance, a Snow Emergency will be enacted when the City of Fort Atkinson accumulates greater than two inches (2”) of snowfall within a 24-hour period. In preparation for the snow predicted for Thursday, the City of Fort Atkinson has declared a Snow Emergency to take effect Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 at 12 p.m. until Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at 12 p.m. During a Snow Emergency all vehicles must be removed from public streets and alleys.

This weather event has predicted snowfall accumulations in the four to eight inch range, with high winds and blowing and drifting snow possible as of 3 p.m. Feb. 15.

Public Works staff will work throughout the day Thursday to maintain continuous safe travel on the highways and secondary roadways as the snow falls, but areas of slippery conditions and slick spots may remain around the area. Lower traffic residential roadways will remain snow-covered until the snowfall wanes and the winds begin to subside. Please exercise caution when driving during this winter event. Department staff will work to maintain the highways and secondary streets until the afternoon, at which time they will break to get some rest. Staff will return to complete a full citywide snow removal operation in the evening and through the night.

The City of Fort Atkinson strives to ensure the safety of the community. During inclement weather, the City will provide updates via its website, social media and local media outlets.

Questions regarding this declaration can be directed to Andy Selle, Director of Public Works 920-397-9901.
